Dr Ravindran was attached to the government service for 18 years including 2 years in the Armed Forces. He then received his general surgical and subspeciality training in various departments (General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Breast & Endocrine and Vascular besides Neurosurgery) in Hospital Ipoh and Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
He was gazetted a Neurosurgeon after 3 years of subspeciality training which included his one year of Clinical Fellowship in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. His last posting was as the Head of Department at Hospital Pulau Pinang (formerly Penang General Hospital) where he served from 2004 till 2008.
During his training in Glasgow, he was trained in the field of spinal and vascular neurosurgery. While he was in Penang, he completed his training in the field of Radiosurgery in Berlin and was then actively performing SRS (Stereotactic RadioSurgery) and SRT (Stereotactic RadioTherapy) for patients with brain tumours at Mount Miriam Hospital which was the only center providing this service then.
